Commercial Shade Sails

Commercial shade sails add architectural flair and block California sun.  Notice the beautiful curves!

They're the economical way to permanently cool big areas.  Their large clearspan capability minimizes columns when tensile structures.  This enhances design flexibility and minimizes cost.

Shade sails don't have upper steel frames (unlike a shade canopy).

But, don't let their good looks fool you. They're manufactured to be commercial tough, unlike the small, $150 temporary sail awnings for residential use. 

These heavy-duty sail fabrics have steel cables sewn inside their perimeter hems to keep them drum-tight and prevent vibration in California wind.  The HDPE fabric is approved by the California State Fire Marshal. All corners are reinforced with multiple fabric layers and strapping.  We use UV-resistant thread for all seams.

Awnings & Tensile Structures

Commercial grade shade sails enable maximum design flexibility.  They can attach to buildings as awnings yet be considerably bigger than conventional awnings.  Or, they can have columns to be stand-alone, tensile shade structures.  Either way, these cable-tensioned fabrics can be any polygon shape (e.g. triangles, squares, rectangles, etc.).  There can be multiple sail fabrics of differing shapes and colors.  Sail shade fabrics can overlap.

But the real "wow" happens with hyperbolic curves!  This is done by varying the heights of adjacent corners on fabrics with four or more sides, which warps the sail fabric into 3D.  This applies to both sail awnings and tensile shade structures.

Tensile structures and fabric awnings provide permanent shade protection for California's institutions (i.e. commercial, industrial, educational, municipal, religious, etc.).  Regardless of implementation, sun sails make beautiful sun blocks!
