DSA Approved Fabric Shade Structures Cover School Patios
DSA approved shade structures using tension fabric now cool the patios at two San Jose elementary schools.
This is because Ultraviolet (UV) rays bounce off concrete pavement like they do with sand, snow, and water? People, (especially children) sunburn faster when near these materials. They're being bombarded by these cosmic devils both from above and below.
UV intensity is greatest when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, regardless of clouds or air temperature.
Union School District purchased (4) DSA shade structures to protect children while eating lunch on the concrete patios (Actually, while sitting at picnic tables on the concrete patios). Kids were getting sunburned and parents didn't like it.
So, we constructed (2) 20' x 40' shade canopies approved by DSA each at Oster and Carlton Elementary Schools. The engineering for these shade structures was previously approved by DSA, so the entire project was completed in just a few months.
The kids now enjoy their peanut butter sandwiches in cool shade. Their parents feel better about their outdoor dining environment. This frees them up to worry about paying for their college educations.
Everybody is happier, including us. What did we get out of this besides crass dollars? The experience of feeling like rock stars! Dozens of little munchkins lined up behind the security fence enamored with our crane and drilling equipment.
I now know how Eric Clapton feels.
